Inner Transformation by Learning an Instrument
The change I have seen in people when they learn an instrument and actually believe that they can do it is remarkable.
I have seen this one change transform people with low confidence into confident and expressive individuals. I have seen a person who was deeply stressed and self critical, come to life and play in a group environment to the point where we couldn’t shut them up!
Whilst these lessons started out about teaching people to play instruments, they are also about showing students a new way to be with themselves. Helping them to be present with themselves, and connect with the experience of playing their instrument, releasing doubts, fears and worries about how it might sound to others, or whether you are good enough.
A key component of this is to assist students to connect with their instruments and their bodies, rather than playing music out of their head.
I encourage students to throw away the sheet music and play from the heart. This approach seems to bring students the greatest amount of joy and presence while playing.
So, I invite you to undertake this journey to connect with your innate and hidden abilities to express yourself through music and to connect with yourself and your presence through music.
